Windows character limit

We have a modo job that’s been failing right before it writes the image file after render. There’s no error messages of note to show what the issue is. But someone suggested that it may be due to Windows character limit for files. This seems like a weird error but a quick google search shows that it is indeed a thing. I was wondering if someone at Thinkbox could verify this.

This is a sample of one of the output files:

ABBIR_BB-Transitions-Workflow_v029_Global_col_####.ex

Thanks,

James

i believe windows also includes all the names of the directory structure in this limit.
so you get 260 chars total for the path and name.

this has caused us trouble before, most often when archiving or un-archiving.

Wow, that’s kind of unbelievable that this issue exists in this day and age. It would have been nice to have some sort of error feedback in this so we didn’t spend a few days trying to debug the modo scene.

Thanks for the info though.

sssshhhhh…it’s a secret…Deadline v7.1 includes a new modo sanity checker, so you could write a pre-flight checker to safe-guard against this in the future.

Haha thanks. I just started on updating our own sanity checker.
