We are having a problem with our Slaves showing up with an incorrect computer name. On the Mac clients the hostname and computer names are correct. DNS is also correct so I’m not sure where Deadline is pulling the computer name from?
Thanks!

Can you provide an example of what the right name is and what Deadline is using? Deadline strips some things off the hostname when generating the slave name (like .local for example), so I’m wondering if that’s what you’re seeing. If you open up a terminal and run ‘hostname’, that’s what Deadline should be using.
Cheers,
They will be different computer names. Deadline will show like 23klvl and the hostname is sh0025… The hostname is set correctly when I check it in termal so I’m not sure where its pulling the other name. Didn’t know if Mac or Deadline caches that or something?
I don’t suppose these workstations / rendernodes were all made from a single image, with deadline pre-installed on them, if so i’ve just encountered the same thing!
This time they weren’t a part of an image but will be in the future. So is deadline caching a hostname in a config file somewhere?
It’s likely you guys are running into a known issue with the new multi-slave feature that was introduced in 5.1. When a slave starts up for the first time, if no slaves have been run on that machine before, it grabs the current hostname to name the slave, and then it will continue to use that name even if the machine name changes. To workaround this, you have to use the Deadline Launcher on the machine to remove the current slave instance and then add a new one:
thinkboxsoftware.com/deadlin … ing_Slaves
In Deadline 6, we are going to change this so that the default slave name will always match the computer name, and then any additional slave instances added to it will be prefixed with the computer name.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Cheers,
Thank you!
