XMesh Poll!

Help us bring XMesh to new platforms! Which platform(s) should we add XMesh support for next?

Other: A standalone mesh/XML processing/viewing tool. XMesh SR?

When you say XMesh processing, do you mean like ‘genome’ or something else?

Simpler than that. I want to concatentate a bunch of XMeshes together, or purge out some unneeded channels, or generate some proxy meshes, or split out an XMesh into sub-XMeshes based on some criteria, or remove redundant data.

There’s fancier things you could do of course, like transform fitting or LOD generation or whatnot, but for now just having the ability to do basic merging and managing of the XMesh data directly in the container would be nice.

XMesh SR : 3ds max or Maya :: Draft : Fusion or Nuke.

I would propose Nuke… but we already have a really effective Nuke <-> Max interchange and I’m not convinced that xMesh is a better solution than what we already have. Maybe there is some potential for material assignment and dynamic updates? If so that would be useful.

Other: Mudbox->Xmesh

SR is interesting, if it were the case couldn’t you just have XML parsers as plugins, is that more or less work?

Right now, the process for tweaking an XMesh is a really pain. If you find out that you liked everything but the material assignment, or you want to add another object, or you want to fix the UVW’s on a mesh, you have to re-export everything or you have to export just some of the channels and edit the .xmesh to merge them together. Something to ease the editing of the .xmesh data or do to the binary processing on the .xmdats would be helpful for users working with any platform.

LOL tell me about it before we had the channels list I was editing the xml’s to remove all the extra channel data I didn’t need in order to make it more transfer friendly, that kinda sucked. :smiley:

Thanks everyone for voting in our very first forum poll. It has helped us decide to get a better polling system! So we have done so. And now this poll has been moved to our main site to make it easier for everyone to vote and hopefully an all around better experience!

I have also duplicated everyone’s votes in the other poll so your old votes still count!

Here’s the new poll:
