Going a step further on “Selection Sets” which setup different output names etc. Another handy tool in the loader for Max and Maya (as well as the saver) would be a xScene Loader/Saver.
So how I picture this working is you setup a number of layers:
xScene ‘PopStar_Character’
xMesh : ‘Body’ \ v0001
Obj : Body_geo
Obj : Body_hair_geo
Obj : BellyButton_ring_geo
Obj : etc…
xMesh : ‘Head’ \ v0001
Obj : Head_geo
Obj : EyeLid_Geo
Obj : EyeLashes_geo
etc.
Then when you hit “Save” it can just batch go through all of the xMesh outputs with their settings all setup. On the loader end you would see all of the objects, as well as the option to choose different versions. So you could mass import a dozen xMesh objects and maybe even parent them to a null automatically so that the whole ‘scene’ is easy to bring in.
