We are using SMTD in Max 2020.2 to submit jobs to Deadline to render with Redshift. Scenes that contain a lot of data (>1Gb) take some time to send over the network. Rather than sending that data over the network to Deadline each time we need versions of that same Max file to render (assuming no external assets are added), is there a way to just use the data we sent last time?
For example, I send a scene with a 16k texture over the network, it renders fine - cool.
I make color correction changes to the scene, no external data is added, can I send this job to Deadline and have Deadline just use the texture data I sent last time?
Yes it is possible. As long as the scene is referencing the same data and you aren’t using 3DS Max with the “submit all assets” feature (which copies them all to the Repository) texture data can be re-used.
So, if I send a job with “Pack all textures”, then make some lighting change, for example, then send the scene again WITHOUT “Pack all textures” enabled, Deadline will just look to where the cached files were stored for the previous submission and render correctly?
