3ds Max 2027 Update

25th March 2026, 3ds Max 2027 release, is it possible to get an update for the lightning plugin to be able to use this with Deadline?

About the same, i wish AD compil lightening for AWS deadline desktop wich each release…so we will not have to wait… :frowning:

Same. But I was interested whether Deadline Cloud would be an option - that seems to be where they want us to move over to (esp when they endof life D10). It seems the cloud version can be used in the same way for your local render farm (although there will be more network traffic of files going up and down). Im pretty sure they will have 3ds max 2027 working there already.

It could even be that the file that we need for D10 is already being used, and just needs to be shared, no idea!

Cloud doesn’t have 2027 support

It also has a bunch of caveats in setup where you need to create conda packages for any plugins etc.

On prem is charged $0.015 per hour ($131.40 for a year) whether it’s rendering or idle, this charge is there per machine.

If you look on the cloud github it doesn’t look like they’re using the lightning plugin in favour of their OpenJobDescription plugin

You can’t just copy and rename the folder C:\DeadlineRepository10\maxStartup\2026
because the .dlx file needs to be recompiled by Thinkbox

I don’t think you can reverse engineer it either. Aside from breaking the EULA, it doesn’t contain the info to do this. So we’re stuck waiting for Thinkbox

Got it. I hadnt looked in great detail, and did wonder about the costs ongoing to replace something we have for free currently.

Please gimme the lightening plugin!

To be clear, this situation is qunique to Max because Deadline doesn’t have any special plugin for any other DCCs. All Deadline plugins temselves use only Python. Max was the main DCC for Fractic hence Max always have had richer feature than other DCCs. Now it is kinda back firing…

Yes, please add 3ds Max 2027 support.

Better yet, make Deadline and/or the Lightning.dlx open source so we can avoid delays in the future.

Many pipelines depend on this wonderful technology. It would be a great PR move to give it to the community.

I have also written a similar version of this plugin myself, but it currently does not support UseSlaveMode.

Could you please provide us with some official technical guidance? We would like to know how the official -slave mode (launched by running 3dsmax.exe -s) is implemented internally.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That should give a few options with either using 3dsCommand or export to standalone render.

The 3ds 2026 Deadline plugin release was out in a month last year, but the 3ds 2025 deadline plugin release in 2024 took 6 months!

I mean ā€˜working on’ as developers, not using the software itself.

I think most of the remaining team have been shuffled over to deadlinecloud
