C4D Env vars not used by DL

Hi
We are moving c4d and redshift plugins to a shared location. We are setting these env vars when we start C4D in a .bat file like this:

This works fine on the workstations but when we submit jobs none of the plugins are loaded. Isnt DL supposed to pass on env vars automatically or am i doing something wrong?

Anybody have an idea what i might be doing wrong here? Cant seem to figure this out.

I tried to set all the en vars as permanent system variables in windows but DL still does not pass the env vars when i submit c4d/rs jobs from c4d and errors with a asset missing: meaning it cant find the redshift plugin. Do i have to permanently set these env vars localy on every slave to make this work?
Any tips would be appreciated.

Hey bonsak,

It looks like you’re not running the proper executable?

The plugin should be pointed to your batch script.

I’m going to be a bit preemptive here… but depending on your C4D R19 version, you’re also going to run into another issue once you do this though.

In R18/R19, MAXON introduced a bug that’s only recently been acknowledged/fixed where they’ll only parse 1 path for “C4D_PLUGINS_DIR”. The problem with this, is that Deadline uses this to hook into C4D. We describe this issue you would experience here in our C4D docs. MAXON has contacted us and said it will be fixed in R19 SP2.

When pointing DL to a modified cmd file that also passes the incoming args like this:

DL starts the slaves and loads the tasks with out problems but completes the job witout rendering anything.
Is there something i need to add in the cmd file to prevent this? Rendering the full render arg on the commandline works fine and renders the frames it is supposed to. See slave log below.

I may have gotten ahead of myself :blush: . You shouldn’t be affected by that C4D_PLUGINS_DIR issue since you aren’t using the batch plugin.

So I decided to test this out, and I can definitely repeat this myself with a minimal case. I seem to have also gotten it to work by adding the /wait option :smiley:! So…

START /b /wait "" "C:\Program Files\MAXON\Cinema 4D R19\Commandline.exe" %*

So I’m not the most familiar with TELNET, but it seems like it’d be required for this. When you test outside of deadline it doesn’t matter, since C4D is still running but the START command finished which is why Deadline receives exit code 0 before C4D finishes running.
